This is an excellent source for differentiating the term baptism throughout the Bible.
I will be referring to it when I have yet another hungry soul wanting to get closer to God through water baptism & ultimately
through the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
This book was a gift from the author, both in the literal sense
that he loaned it to me so that I could review it and because it was used of God to remind me of His ever renewing power.
As usual with studying Scripture, the author's argument that context is key is crucial
for a biblical perspective. He reminds us that baptism has different meanings in different places, and he encourages us to
investigate who is doing the baptizing and what the meaning in that particular text is. Baptism of the Spirit, he challenges,
is essential, and it has nothing to do with getting wet. Water baptism, in his analysis, is an act of subsequent, loving obedience
and testimony before men.
The text has the tone of a topical teaching,
and this is neither good nor bad. Ringing phrases are absent, but perhaps the author is conscious of a desire not to get in
the way of the wonder of his subject.
Brings clarity to a confusing topic. God is not the author of confusion.
I like
how the various theories were presented and given space for examination. The author is presenting truth in what seems to be
a humble, sincere spirit.
Sometimes doctrinal booklets are purposefully critical of other
positions. But this just puts the Scripture out there for consideration with a little highlighting and connecting of the dots
to see the plain truth available to all.
You know something is right when it is simple.
I want to express gratitude to the author for exerting the effort and prayer time necessary to properly arrange this
helpful information.
This
book provides an excellent study of an often confusing subject. Before I read it, I knew virtually nothing about the subject.
Now, I feel that I'm much better prepared to discuss baptisms with others.
The thing I liked the most was the 4-Question test, and summary at the end. This will make it easy to go back and quickly
review the book's basic tenets. Well done!
Bible Study is a lost art in many of today's Churches. Baptism in and of itself is a very confusing topic. You can
go to several churches and get completely different views on this topic.
But, what does the Bible really say about baptism?
I for one, had no idea that there were so many different types of baptisms that were discussed in the Bible.
This book teaches you without 'spoon feeding' all of the answers. It teaches you how to ask four critical questions to glean
from the text for yourself.
This book will help you put into practice the example in Acts 17:11 - to receive the Word with eagerness and to search the
Scriptures to see if these things are true.
I highly recommend this book for any serious student of the Bible, or those Christians who really feel confused about the
various teachings on baptism.
This book will really help clarify things for you!
Robert Dallman has provided a great service to any Christian who reads this book.
The many types of Baptisms that are mentioned in the Bible can often be confusing, but he provides a method of determining
whether or not water is involved with a very easy to remember formula.
This book is not a deep scholarly tome, but rather an easy read for any Christian who seeks clarity about baptism. I recommend
it without reservation.
I really enjoyed this books for the following reasons:
1. The author does not force his opinion on me - he simply shows the scripture and then asks logical questions allowing scripture
and the Holy Spirit to reveal the answer.
2. I like the no frills approach that Bob Dallmann takes in his studies. I have read several of his books now and I appreciate
his extremely thorough content yet with no "mental gymnastics".
3. I like that I can use this book for a personal study or I can use it in a small group or Sunday School setting.
4. I was floored at how little I really knew about baptism and how unclear I was on what I thought I knew. I now have a 4
question test that I can apply anytime I see the word "baptism" in scripture.
5. I like the fact that I can read this on my Kindle or tablet - and I hope it comes out in paperback as well so I can gift
it.
I HIGHLY recommend this book for any believer - at any level of maturity and at any level of knowledge of scripture.
I found this book very interesting. I was aware of a variety of baptisms mentioned in the Bible; however, I discovered
several additional baptisms.
I really like this book for several reasons: It is a discussion based directly on verses from the Bible--all in the context
they were written, it is formatted well in order to deal with one topic at a time, and it is concise--there is not a bunch
of fluff or personal ideas not based in Scripture.
This is a great book to help you explore the topic of baptism from a Biblical perspective.
As a baptized believer, I have read several books over the years on baptism, and I think this helpful book stands
shoulder to shoulder with all of them. But I'd go further: this book takes a real panoramic view of the whole subject of baptism
and finds many links that I had missed before.
In his 16 chapters Dallmann covers specifically about 10 different categories of baptism found in the bible. The remaining
chapters introduce and link the themes as well as providing summary conclusions and a helpful quick reference biblical chart.
Chapter 3 provides four simple questions we need to keep in mind as we explore the subject of baptism across the whole sweep
of the Bible: who is doing the baptising, who is being baptised, into what are they being baptized and what is the purpose
of this baptism. The answers are sometimes surprising, always illuminating. Dallmann does not do all the work for his readers.
Whilst he always provides helpful pointers, he often leaves them to reach their own conclusions.
This is a short book but 'heavyweight' in its theological content. And yet its a straightforward read and helpful to Believers
at whatever stage they have reached in their Christian journey. I highly recommend this book.
Peter Sammons, author: "The Birth of Christ" (2006)
There is so much confusion about the various baptisms mentioned
in the New Testament. Many Christians think that every time they see the word “baptism” that water is involved.
Did you know that there are eight or more “baptisms”
mentioned in the New Testament?
Did you know that not all of the baptisms noted in the
Bible are for believers?
Did you know that there are two (possibly four) baptisms
that actually involved water, and only one of those should be practiced by Christians?
This book is an effort to help bring clarity to the various
baptisms mentioned and taught in the Bible. If one does not understand which baptism they are speaking about, misunderstanding
and erroneous interpretations are likely to follow.
Robert (Bob) Dallmann has been a follower and servant of Jesus Christ since December of 1983.
Bob
is currently a director of ChristLife, Inc., an elder in his church, a Bible teacher, a home school group chapter leader,
the leader of an evangelistic outreach, a full-time employee, and most important on this earth, a family man.
Bob’s
love for God and His Word, combined with his interesting way of looking at things, should make this a thought-provoking read.
If you have ever wondered about all of the baptisms mentioned in the Bible, this book should pique your interest.
